Claude-Michel Schönberg in conversation with Edward Seckerson

The legendary composer of the musical Les Misérables visits the island where Victor Hugo wrote his classic novel.

This June, Take a Left Productions will bring Claude-Michel Schönberg to Guernsey for a very special evening at St James. Together with lyricist Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schönberg created two of the greatest international successes in the history of musical theatre, Les Misérables and Miss Saigon.

In a rare public encounter, and a 2019 exclusive to Guernsey, Claude-Michel Schönberg will sit down with writer and broadcaster Edward Seckerson to discuss his journey from songwriter, record producer and singer (including his French number one hit song Le Premiere Pas) to the stages of the West End and Broadway.

Illustrated with treasured recordings, he will discuss how his “Rock Opera” La Révolution Française set him on the path to Victor Hugo and Les Misérables and how a single photograph from the archives of the Vietnam War prompted a dramatic new take on Puccini’s Madam Butterfly, as well as the elusive process which triggers the melodies, his love of opera and ballet, and his continuing quest to breathe new life into perhaps his greatest score, Martin Guerre.
